Owner Roger Hays
Roger's car is
a 1957 Chevrolet 2dr. Sport Coupe Purchased in 1970
while in the Navy in San Diego Calif.
Originally
black in color with a red/black interior it was
basically a shell when bought.
It was towed
home with vice grips to steer it with while sitting
on a five gallon bucket.
A built 292 cu
in small block with a 4 speed was installed and a
stock front seat to sit on.
After breaking
many axles and gears in the rear end on the street
it was swapped out for a 57 Pontiac rear, no more
breakage.
The car was
drag raced on a track weekly in 1973-4 in Oklahoma
while going to school and back and forth to work.
Finally got to
New York in 1975.
Was left black
and primer until 1976 when it was taken off the road
to be painted.
It got a
little more than paint. The interior was gutted and
fitted with 73 Chevelle black swivel bucket seats.
The rear seat
was covered in black vinyl.
Interior has
aftermarket gauges and tach, blue metallic dash.
The engine is
a 350 small block, double hump heads, 350 horse cam,
Holley four barrel carb on an alum. intake and
headers.
The 4 speed
was changed to a turbo 400 but has since been
changed back to the 4 speed.
The exterior
is a bright metallic blue from a 1978 Camaro done in
lacquer and clear coat.
Except for the
wheels and tires and the hood locks the exterior has
no modifications.
And yes the
paint is 30 years old.
