Tom’s Chevelle originally rolled off the assembly line in late May of 1966 in Flint Michigan.

He purchased this Danube Blue 1966 Chevelle SS 396 in the fall of 2002.

The 375hp 396 cu in big block Chevrolet and 4 speed M21 Muncie transmission were out of it being rebuilt.

It rolled off the flatbed hauler and the work began.

The body was removed and the frame sandblasted primed and repainted.

The brake and fuel lines were replaced with stainless steel, as were all the nuts bolts and washers.

For safety the front brakes were converted to disc.

Kurt Profitier removed and rebuilt the 12 bolt posi rear end swapping out the 4.11 gears for 3.73’s for better cruising ability.

As far as the body goes the floor pans, trunk floor, and quarters were replaced.

Tom, Todd Pitts, and Jay Curry did the body and paint work. Tim Barron painted the stripes down the sides.

The all black interior was installed by Mark Peterson.

Leaving the original headliner, sun visors, mirror and dash intact, a new and improved stereo system was installed along with new    trim parts from “Year One”, “Ausley’s Chevelle Parts”, and “Original Parts Group” in California.

The gauge panel, steering column, glove box door and the window sills were painted the body color for greater contrast. Mark must have done an excellent job as the car got Best Interior at the 2007 Orchard Park Lions Club Show.

Two and a half years from the start of the project it hit the SUNLIGHT on 15X8 rally wheels and redline tires with “o” miles on the odometer and 1966 New York plates that read 66.

July 3 2005 will stand out in Tom’s mind for a long time.

Since then Hooker Jet Hot Coated headers were added to the .40 396 (2007) and in 2008 the car received a new show chromed master cylinder and brake booster.
